OSCAR ERNESTO ORTEGA CUBA
Havana Cuba,1987
OSCAR ERNESTO ORTEGA, originally from Cuba, trained as a director, producer, and cinematographer in Havana. With two garden lights and a video camera, he founded EL CENTRAL Producciones, a production company initially created to support his own projects and those of his university peers. Over time, it evolved into one of Havana’s first independent production houses with international clients, allowing him to work with companies such as Red Bull Media House.
In 2015, he relocated EL CENTRAL Productions to the United States, shifting his career focus toward advertising, working with brands such as Toyota and Hyundai and agencies like Conill, while maintaining his commitment to developing narrative projects.
In 2019, he directed his first feature film, shot between Miami and New York, which was later acquired by HBO Max and premiered in 2020—marking a major milestone in his career.
In 2022, he took on the challenge of adapting a Broadway play produced by Tony Award-winner Jim Kierstead, transforming it into a screenplay and later directing the film “Borrowed,” now available on Amazon Prime Video.
Beyond filmmaking and screenwriting, Oscar Ernesto has dedicated his career to exploring locations and human stories, crafting narratives that resonate with both Hispanic and English-speaking audiences. From 2022 to 2024, he lived in Patagonia, Argentina, where he wrote his latest feature film, “Epupillán.”
For Oscar Ernesto, audience markets, demographics, and niches are merely starting points—it is storytelling that truly engages viewers. Whether in commercial work or feature films, he prioritizes narrative as the core element, followed closely by aesthetics, an aspect he deeply values due to his background as a cinematographer.
Some of his clients include, HBO Latino, HBO Max, NBC Universal, Red Bull, Toyota, Cigna, Tele Mundo, Connil, Univision and Sony Music.
